Modern hernia surgery techniques and mesh systems have evolved significantly in recent years. The risk of complications is low, and the risk of recurrence (the hernia occuring again) is less than 1%. Dr Yew is experienced in both laparoscopic and open hernia techniques. These hernias include inguinal, femoral, umbilical, ventral and incisional (result of previous operation). Dr Yew's priority is to provide patients with a robust, long lasting repair, with minimal downtime from work and leisure.
Gallstone disease is very common and can cause significant ill health. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder with keyhole surgery) is the most effective and accepted management for symptomatic (e.g. pain, infection) gallstone disease. Dr Yew routinely performs laparoscopic cholecystectomy with the standard 4 port technique. Single incision (single port) laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the latest development in minimally invasive gallbladder surgery.

The diagnosis of breast cancer is a traumatic experience for both patient and family. Dr Yew offers an empathetic, professional, experienced and multidisciplinary approach to the management of your breast cancer. Oncoplastic breast surgery incorporates both oncologic surgery (cancer priorities) and plastic surgery (aesthetic priorities) principles to achieve optimum cancer outcomes with the best cosmetic outcome. Dr Yew is a fellowship trained Breast oncoplastic surgeon with experience in these principles and techniques. An example of this approach is the combination of cancer excision with breast reduction surgery.
Many procedures involving the Thyroid, Parathyroid, and Adrenal glands, as well as Hernia and Gallbladder surgery can be performed through minimally invasive techniques. Modern thyroid surgery in experienced hands is one of the safest types of surgery. Dr Yew is experienced in all aspects of thyroid surgery for benign and malignant disorders. Dr Yew has a special interest in minimally invasive adrenalectomy. Dr Yew is the first surgeon in Perth to perform a revolutionary new technique of adrenalectomy that is quicker, safer and more painless for patients than traditional laparoscopic adrenalectomy. This technique, pioneered by Professor Walz from Germany, is fast becoming the preferred technique for adrenalectomy globally.
